April 2017
Hello again all Mercury Sailors!
2017 MCYRA Flagship

April is upon us and much has happened since my last notes to all. First I would like to welcome new member and owner of Merc 530, Victor Piltch. Victor recently purchased the boat and will be working with Pax Davis to make some user friendly improvements (i.e. taking out the raised floorboards). We are looking forward to having them out on the water soon!

Perry Cup finished its last Saturday of racing in terrific conditions despite all the rain and storms. Doug Baird won the overall series. Many thanks to Dick Clark and his crew for their hard work, again! As well as the Monterey Yacht Club for hosting the 4 weekend event. Mid-Winters was a real surprise as the weather took a break for us to enjoy some challenging conditions and some less than memorable races for some. We had 8 boats, 5 from the L.A. Fleet, with Randy Smith and Team Lanzafame braving the drive from up north and Mac Kilpatrick came over from OK City to join in. Congratulations to Mike Burch for winning the regatta. CBYC once again did a great job of putting on this event!

The NorCal and newly created SoCal Series got March racing started off in fine style. The SoCal series is scheduled on the same Saturdays as the NorCal. This was created to encourage the L.A. and Santa Barbra fleets to sail their boats and have more racing options. Whether you are in Northern Calif. or Southern Calif. there is plenty of good racing going on in April and May!

As a reminder, if your boat is on the “needs to get measured” list, there is plenty of time before the Nationals to get it done. The class scale is back up North and there are plenty of people in the association that are happy to assist!

We have a lot of great events coming up over the next several months, and there is no time like the present to get you and your boat out racing! So pump up the tires on those trailers and get that boat to the next regatta!
See you on the water!
