Mercury Class Yacht Racing Association

Hello Fellow Mercury Class Members!
Been awhile since I last reported on the happenings in the class, but hey, it’s been a busy summer!! Here’s a recap!

Hart Nunes, San Francisco Y.C. another excellent job of putting on a fun day of racing. Chris & Jeff Lanzfame coming away with the win!

Then there was Huntington Lake! Beautiful weather (a little smoky at times from Yosemite fire) and nice breeze as, usual. Once again there were some new comers to the lake (if you can believe that), Dave Bacci in 548 and John Ravizza in 537…….Dave West and Tony Basso get the win.

The National Championships in Los Angeles……Chris Messano and Doug McLain pulled off 5 first place finishes! Which has never been done in the Mercury class before. Big congratulations to Chris! Also, the Los Angeles Yacht Club did a fantastic job of putting on the regatta. From the club house staff, volunteers, food staff, and of course the race committee. Who did a very good job of keeping us on our toes!

Labor Day in Carmel……..Dick Clark and staff did another excellent job. Some different conditions from Saturday to Sunday (the later having a more than usual southerly swell condition). Doug Baird winning once again. We really need to try and get more boats there next year!

That’s the summer wrap up! Crazy fun racing had by all!

As we move into the fall, PCC at Los Angeles Y.C. September 29th and 30th, Homecoming October 20th (which has been moved to Richmond Y.C., since there is no longer a Hoist for us to use in Sausalito), Perry Cup in Monterey starts off with 2 days of racing November 3rd and 4th followed by the Fall One Design 10th and 11th hosted by Cabrillo Beach Y.C.

Lots of great racing in some great venues coming up, so get your boat out and go sailing!

See you on the water!
