Mercury Class Yacht Racing Association

Seven  Mercuries entered the the regatta at  the San Francisco Yacht Club.  The first race was scheduled to be started off the Corinthian Yacht Club, but the wind conditions made for better conditions to the east near Keil Cove.

By the start time the breeze had filled in and with the ebb tide sea conditions were very lumpy. Racers did see approximately 15 knots of wind on the way to the weather mark at Belvedere Point bell buoy. Doug Baird, with Steve Jeppesen, got the start but unfortunately broke a stay and had to retire for the day. Chris Lanzafame got first place with his son Jeff Lanzafame as crew. Second place went to David Bacci with Eric Strassevitch as crew.  John Ravizza, with Jim McGinness, was third.
Before Race 2 it was decided to move the course to Richardson Bay, where the breeze became very light and shifty for the next three races.  All races were single sausages. Race 2, Chris and Jeff Lanzafame once again found the way to finish first, followed by John Ravizza in second and Bill and Katie Worden in third.
Race 3, Lyn and Odile Hines finished first, Lanzafames second and Ravizza and McGinness in third.
Race 4 was started in very light air, with David Bacci first followed by the Hines in second. Ravizza picked up a third.
Chris and Jeff Lanzafame won regatta and Hart Nunes perpectual trophy. The trophy sits in a prominent place in The San Francisco Yacht Club.
All racers enjoyed a wonderful gathering and delicious dinner after the racing at the home of Odile and Lyn Hines. The class thanks them very much and it was a lot of fun. Many thanks also to the San Francisco Yacht Club for their assistance.
