Last weekend two NorCal teams (Doug Baird, Lyn Hines), 3 SoCal teams (Bob Burns, Park Densmore, Mike Burch) made the trip to Santa Barbara, as well as Santa Barbara GT, for the Cinco de Mayo Regatta hosted again by the Santa Barbara Sailing Club. The Santa Barbara Sailing Club was very enthusiastic to have Mercury's participating since they made up one of the largest fleets for the regatta except the Laser qualification trophies.

Saturday sailing was a perfect day with 10- knot breezes and very little ocean swell. The strategy to go right seemed like the right thing for Doug Baird and Michael Burch who put in solid performances in the four races sailed. Coming in at the end of the day,  GT saw one of his shrouds unravel and asked for a tow in.

Sunday's forecast was light and after waiting out an hour of postponement,  the travelers who wanted to avoid a traffic jam at the hoist, headed in.  GT and Lyn Hines elected to wait a bit and were able to sail two fun races exchanging positions multiple times and sharing final results.  Going right up the shore seemed key and its importance was not lost on me when the rule was't applied.
